When I last wrote about my quest for the ideal platform for Final Fantasy XI, I had just finished installing the Playstation 2 version of the game on my backwards-compatible Playstation 3 and left it to patch overnight. Having done all this, I logged into PlayOnline with my 14-day trial user name and password. At this point, I have to say I was feeling good about the PS2 version of the game because, as far as I could tell, it all looked very good on my Tv … then I left the PlayOnline client and the game loaded. It was kind of downhill from there. More »

In this article, I won’t be getting into my adventures and gameplay experiences too deeply just yet. This is more my real-world quest to choose what hardware platform my adventure would play out on.
I knew I had to get the Vana’diel 2008 collection to get started in Final Fantasy XI Online. It had the base game along with its retail expansions. Given what they all sell for on Ebay and Amazon, I told the collector part of me to take a rest and went for the best value for the money. More »

With the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV Online at this year’s E3, I got to thinking … What if someone wanted to start playing Final Fantasy XI Online today as a new player? Is it possible? Should anyone attempt it?
I mean, let’s be honest, the players in Vana’diel have been at this for as much as 7 years. Over those 7 years, many friendships and bonds have been forged and broken, battles won and lost, XP gained and endgame quests completed. Through all of this, one of the most diehard and, dare I say, “hardcore communities” was born. Is there room for one more? Would anyone, after all this time, even be interested in assisting me in my quest to see all of what Vana’diel has to offer? After all, Final Fantasy is a highly respected and honored series as far as story is concerned and, well, I’ve always regretted the feeling that somehow there just never was a Final Fantasy XI and we went directly from FF-X to FF-X-2 to FF-XII.
With these articles, I hope to answer all these questions for myself and maybe some others who were shocked by the revelation at this year’s Sony Press Conference that there would be a Final Fantasy XIV and, like it or not it, will be online. Which means, this may be the last chance any of us have to enjoy FF-XI.

You may be familiar with Retro Gamer magazine, the only place for old (but great) game coverage nowadays. I have a lot of respect for what they are doing to keep a classic gaming vibe alive and well. I guess you can imagine my surprise when reading casually through the “Twilight Game Zone” article in issue 58 (here in the US we are a month behind) I saw my own website credited for images used for the “Shtick Stuff” section of the article. I just wanted to say wow, I didn’t see that one coming and welcome anyone who is here because of the mention.
As many of you see the site is in a bit of a state of reboot at the moment. But please mind the dust and keep checking back because the official relaunch of the site has just begun.
