EGM - Electronic Game Manager |

What's New?
Version 0.0500
A long overdue update, and probably the last release of the program.
Updated all docs, including this page.
What is EGM?
For those of us who collect video games, keeping track of
our collections can be a difficult task, especially when your collection spans many
different systems, and/or you have hundrerds or thousands of games and accessories.
Why EGM?
Until now, there were not many programs collectors could use to keep
track of their games. Database programs offer power and versatility, but are usually not
easy to use, or convienent. There are a few media collection programs out there which
allow the user to track games, but most lack critical features, and some are awkward to
use. And many do not offer support for gaming hardware at all! This is why I created EGM,
a powerful, feature-rich, games-only collection management program.
What does EGM do?
Simply, it allows the user to create lists of games and
hardware. These lists can be "master lists", lists which contain all the
available games or hardware available for a given system, or a "collection
list", a list of games or hardware in the user's collection. In addition, EGM can
generate printable reports and lists (screenshot 1, 2).
What Video Games Work With EGM?
Any console system should be able to be tracked with EGM.
It was originally designed for NES games and hardware, but was expanded to work with any
console. Any game systems from Atari 2600 to Playstation 2 should work fine. Computer
games should also work as well, though additional tweaking may be necessary. Please let me
know. Support for arcade games may be added later (really!)
What do I need to use EGM?
Any 32-bit Windows, including Windows 95/98/ME, and Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher installed, this is a must
Microsoft DAO 3.5 or higher required. You can get it here
Pentium or compatible CPU, 60mhz or higher recommended, though it might work on a 486
32MB or more RAM recommended
VGA or better display running at 640x480 or higher
That's it! Any computer which meets those requirements should run EGM.
Installing EGM
Install DAO 3.5, and install IE 5.5 or higher if you don't already have it
installed. Then, just run egm0500.exe, and follow the installer prompts.
Uninstalling EGM
Just go to Control Panel->Add/Remove programs, it can be uninstalled like any
other program.
Important Notes
EGM is more or less an abandoned project, partially because of limited time, and partially
I feel EGM is no longer adequate for my needs, and needs to be completely rewritten. EGM
0.0500 is probably the last version. EGM does work reasonably well, and I still use it for
my collection, but there are probably some leftover bugs here and there, and some features
never completed. The serious bugs should have been fixed now, and some may still find this
useful. If you really like the program, and for some strange reason want to see new
versions, drop me a note and I will consider it. It might be quite a while before that
happens, if I decide to do so.
Legal Notice
Just to cover my backside legally... This software comes with NO warranty, and the author
is not responsible for any damage this program may cause you or your computer, and you
install and run this program at your own risk. That said, this program is pretty darn safe
since it doesn't do much. Me and a friend of mine have run it many times with absolutely
no delterious effects of any kind. Also, this program has been checked to be virus-free.
But... don't ever trust stuff you download does not contain a virus. Use a virus scanner,
and practice safe computing.
