This device really needs no introduction, it is the infamous
Game Genie, for Game Boy. It functions just like the NES and SNES
versions of the device. You enter a code and the corresponding code alters
values in RAM which therefore modifies game variables such as number of
lives, amount of energy you have, and so on.
There are a few oddies particular to the GB version. First, the device
goes in the Game Boy with the cart slot on the Genie itself facing towards
the player, so the cartridge itself was visible to the user, unlike the
way the cart usually faces when in a GB. Second, there are buttons on the
Genie, which I have no idea what they are for. Anyone know?
Of course there are compatibility issues between the different GB models.
The Game Genie works with the original GB, and, I think, Pocket GB. It
will work with Super
Game Boy, with a special adaptor (info on this little adapter coming
soon), and I would assume using this adapter, it could be used with the
Japanese Super GB 2.
Will it work with Color GB? Will it work with non-CGB games but not Color
GB Who knows. Since the Game Genie is an old device and most kids are buying
the more modern Game Shark for GB cheating,
I haven't seen any discussion of CGB-Genie compatibility. If you know,
let me know.
Want some codes for your Genie? Maybe sometime I'll put an archive of codes
here, but for now, get 'em from the sites below.
