The Classic Nintendo
Documentation Project
The Nintendo Repository, for over eight years and
three server changes, has been bringing you everything you ever wanted
to know about the NES/Famicom, Super NES/Famicom and Game Boy console
systems. Here will you find information not available anywhere else on
the net, such as a comprehensive guide to Super Nintendo peripherals, a
large, regularly updated manual archive for the SNES and GB, as well as
the only English language list of Famicom cartridges in existance. Now
and into the future, you can count on the Nintendo Repository to bring
you the most information on Nintendo's classic consoles.es.
A new manual, some scans, and info on MACS.
Added map scans for Uncharted Waters, I didn't have time to add them
last time, whoops! The map comes courtesy Zidanax.
Added more info to MACS
Added more info on Barcode
Battler. If anyone has any additional info, please let me know.
Scans and pics of either the unit, or the US or Euro versions of BB
would be greatly appreciated!
Added more info on unknown SNES peripheral. Anyone have a pic or scan
of the controlelr set this came with, or know the name of it?
Added Q*Bert manual to manuals
page, thanks again to Eratosthenes
Added tiny note to Beeshu
Zinger, it was released in the Netherlands. Was it released
anywhere else?
Added a new SNES manual. More to come this weekend! Also fixed the link
to the Excitebike manual.
Added manual for Uncharted Waters (PDF, 5.45MB), courtesy Zidanax, to manuals page
Added 2 new NES manuals. I have gotten lots of great stuff recently, I
will add the rest soon, hopefully over Thanskgiving weekend.
Big thanks to Shane Monroe over at Retrogaming Radio for
mentioning this site in his Bits and Bytes segment during his August
show. I have listened to his show and enjoyed it for many years, I am
really flattered that the site was worth a mention on his outstanding
show.
Added Urban Champion and Excitebike manuals,
courtesy Eratosthenes
Some new info on the Famicom Keyboard/Family Basic
Added info to Famicom
Keyboard/Family Basic thanks to "22"
Converted a few stray SNES Peripherals pages into the
new format. Something I meant to do years ago. Geesh! Where has the
time gone?
Added an unknown device to
the SNES Peripherals
section. Looks like some sort of wireless receiver. Anyone know what it
is?
Also added "Ninendo Emulator",
which I believe is an official SNES development kit, to SNES Peripherals section
A new manual, more to come!
Added Gun.Smoke manual, courtesy
Eratosthenes
So much for a week, huh?
Added Rygar, Totally Rad, and Knight Rider scanned manuals to manuals page. Thanks to WB for the
manuals, more will be added soon.
So much for a week, huh?
-
Added Operation Secret Storm, Challenge Of
The Dragon, and Castle Of Deceit manuals,
thanks to TRM. I have had these forever and
forgot to add them.
Been a while since the site was updated, I know.
Nothing new today, but there will be an update sometime this week. it
would have been here earlier, fi not for some computer trouble over the
weekend.
Just a quick note for those who have emailed asking about exchaning
links. I really don't have time to maintain a links page like I used to
have, but if you are established and ask nicely, well, I'll see. Drop
me an email with your URL. When it comes to commercial sites, I
generally don't link to them, unless there are extenuating
circumstances, so please don't ask. Thanks.
I finally fixed a number of broken update issues.
Thanks to my new high speed connection, it updating this site is far
less painful. Nothing new in this update, but the entire NES peripherals section was
overhauled a bit, and all broken links and images there are now fixed.
More manuals! And recently I found a great
utility which makes viewing all of the scanned manuals here easier.
Originally intended for scanned comic books, it will display all of the
images within a Zip or RAR file, and it works great for the scanned
manuals here as well. Check it out here.
I recently got broadband here, so updates should be more frequent, and
a lot less broken. Stay tuned. And keep sending those manuals in!
The manuals just keep coming!
-
Added scanned manuals for Scooby-Doo Mystery,
Tetris & Dr. Mario, and Super Double Dragon, thanks to an anonymous
contributor
More manuals today. Keep 'em coming everyone!
More scanned SNES manuals!
-
Added 6 new scanned manuals; Monopoly, Paperboy 2,
Krusty's Super Fun House, Lethal Enforecers, Mighty Morphin Power
Rangers and The Lion King. Also added a scan of the map that came with
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, I have had this for a long
time but never put up the link to it.
I know it has been a while since I last updated,
yadda yadda yadda. But, if you like collecting Super NES manuals, this
is the update for you.
The NES Pirate section will be back up in a few months.
-
Added 5 new scanned manuals; Battle Clash, The Great
Waldo Search, John Madden Football, Home Alone 2 - Lost In New York,
and Beethoven - The Great Canine Caper.
Remember EGM? An old program I wrote and haven't
updated in a year? Well, here is a new version, it still isn't great,
but all of the old problems should be fixed. It isn't totally finished,
but it should work for most purposes. Get it here
Just a quick update...
-
Fixed Game Mage page, the Game
Mage unit is displayed, and not the Game Genie (whoops)
-
Updated Batter Up! page with photos
of the device, including those of the insides
No, the site is not dead. Yet
The NES/Famicom pirate pages have been removed,
the reason for this is explained in detail below.
I even considered pulling a TSR and just quit
working on the site, and wouldn't be the first to consider that. Fact
is, since I graduated college, I just don't have the free time like I
used to. Not to say I am out working really hard, or out on lots of
dates or something, but I have other priorities now. Some of my own
choosing, some not. Because of this, the site will only be updated
every 3-4 months from now on. I do regret this fact, but I don't have
much choice. I will keep the site up and alive, so long as I have a
host. But the updates just won't be as frequent.
Part of it is the site is huge, and grown beyond
my ability to handle it. The site is still full of broken links,
misspelled words, missing pictures, and a million other problems. I
have nearly half a gig of material I have to put on the site,
and haven't made a dent in it in months. I'm at a loss on how to handle
the enormous task of getting the site completely updated, organized and
working.
Some with similar sites pay to have their sites
hosted, but that is just not possible for me. I owe a small fortune in
student loans, car payments, insurance and other things I can't pay.
The last thing I need is another monthly bill. This site is a hobby,
one I freely share with the world, as long as it is 'free' for me to do
so. If I made the big bucks that so many claimed a new graduate in
computer science could make, which turned out to be a total load of
shit, I would be happy to have it hosted on the best host on the
planet, with all the tools I need to run the site. I do not want to
turn this into a pay site for many reasons, mostly because I'd get into
trouble over copyright issues, and it would be more trouble for me than
I care to get into. And, frankly, I seriously doubt anyone would pay to
see this site anyway.
So what is the bottom line here? The site WILL
remain up. The site WILL be updated, but only a few times a year.
Please continue to send in information, I do read every email, even if
I am too busy or I forget to respond.
Thanks for your continued support!
Why the NES/FC Pirate Section is Down
Seems the ISDA strikes again, this time I am their victim. For whatever
reason, my host's ISP got a snotty form letter from them, complaining
about my NES/FC pirate stuff. No, there was not nor was there ever were
any ROMs on this site. Either the IDSA hired flunky who found my pirate
stuff assumed there were ROMs for download, or that I was selling
pirate cartridges. Neither is true. The pirate stuff is for reference
and entertainment only, I don't sell pirate stuff, or anything
really, and I don't have any "copies of infringing game material". They
did not state ANYTHING specific which was infringing, just a vague form
letter. Unless having pictures of pirate cartridges is somehow a
violation of the law, this group of busybodies are just looking to make
trouble, and I just happened to be an easy target. There may have been
some law passed about simply having pictures of pirated game
cartridges, who knows in this day and age.
Either way, for the time being, the NES/FC pirate
stuff has been removed from this site. Please don't send angry mail to
my host, or their ISP, they had nothing to do with this. In fact, my
host and their ISP have been great to me and this site, hosting it
totally ad-free. I have had the NES/FC pirate section up five
years and never had a problem with the ISDA or Nintendo until now. It
is probably the most popular section of the site with visitors. I put
over 100 hours into that section over five years. Needless to say, I am
NOT happy about this. Of course, I still have all the pages etc.
locally here. As soon as this BS is ironed out, the NES/FC pirate stuff
will be back one way or another. Keep checking back as things unfold.
This incident makes me glad I am almost exclusively a retrogamer, and
have NOT purchased one game (new retail) from an ISDA member in 5
years. See if any of them get my business ever again. There are enough
8 bit, 16 bit and older PC games to last me the rest of my life anyway.
I am a lot more digusted about this than I am
coming across here. I won't get into a long tirade here, but I will say
a few things. When I first started this site, the internet was a
different place. It was more friendly, it was a lot more fun. Nowadays,
we have all kinds of shit on the internet; ever-increasing levels of
spam, tons of annoying popup ads on almost every site out there,
privacy invasions of all kinds, and lots of troublemaking busybodies.
This site was exciting when I first started, as was the whole internet
in general; nowadays this site feels like work, another obligation. I
keep going because despite all this, I enjoyed the challenge, I took
pride in what I was doing, and I knew that others enjoyed what I was
doing. After this, I sat back and really wondered what I should do
about it. I thought about shutting the site down. I won't. I put too
much time into it. And others have helped me too much as well. But it
definately gives me pause for thought. Things are just not what they
used to be, and I can't help wonder if I should bother anymore. I will
continue on here for the time being, and see how it goes. There are a
definately few things here I want to finish up, such as the cartridge
lists. But as for the whole site, I will see. Let's hope things resolve
themselves, or at least there is no future trouble.
Now, they had NO complaint about the other pirate
stuff, so only the NES/FC stuff was removed.
Hey speaking of pirate stuff... Some SNES pirates
today. I have had these forever but forgot about them. Also, I forgot
to upload the NES In The Arcade
page a while back, it is up now. Thanks to Shaun
Olson for reporting this.
This is an official "catch up time" update, with
lots of stuff people have sent in over the last 6 months, as well as
stuff I have had on my hard drive forever but never got around to
adding.
-
Added 2 new controllers to NES/FC controllers page.
This is going to be split into different pages eventually, like the
SNES controllers are now. For now, it is ok, but give it a fair amount
of time to load. Also added a picture of the Beeshu Zinger, courtesy
Luther Bell
-
Added weird unlicensed soccer game from
Italy(?) to Unknown NES/FC
page. Anyone know more about it?
-
Updated both NES/FC Pirate Clones pages, one two
Happy New Year everyone. Not nearly as much as I
planned for this update. A bigger, better update will come sometime
around the new year. Keep sending in those Famicom cart scans, so the
Famicom list can be soon completed.
-
Massive update to NES/FC list. Due to various
issues, it will only be available in a zipped version. No one has been
able to get the list to display completely in quite a while, including
me (I think it its too big). So get it here.
-
Added a bunch of scans of my US NES
carts. I might add the rest at a later date (there are about 300 more
to scan!)
Hope everyone out there in the US had a happy
thanksgiving. Here are a few new goodies. Be sure and check out the new
NES In the Arcades update.
Hi everyone. Hopefully, things will return to
'normal' here, and updates will be more interesting and more often. At
least they should, we will see.
-
Updated a few single Famicom pirates, replacing them
"unknown" to their actual titles. Information courtesy Alex Evans
-
Updated NES/FC controllers page
-
Updated the NES/FC
list, giving it a serious update, many Japanese name corrections,
many missing FC games, and more. Though the list is still quite a ways
from being complete, in terms of Famicom titles, I definately see a
light at the end of the tunnel, and hopefully, hopefully, the Famicom
section will be completed sometime early next year.
Hi everyone. Updates have been pretty much
nonexistant as of late, despite the fact people have been sending in
great stuff as of late. Keep sending it in, I just have so much in real
life I haven't had a chance to catch up at all. I know I sound like a
broken record saying that all the time, I really thought I'd have some
time to work on the site but just haven't had enough. Heck, I haven't
touched EGM at all in 2 months. But I will get around to everything
soon.
While there isn't much new here, here are some
links to some interesting things
Click
here to see a newly discovered NES modem. This is really awesome, I
wish I had found it first
Click
here to see the most insane NES related eBay auction I have ever
seen. No, really, you just have to see this. The high bidder should be
committed for this purchase.
Having contests on game related websites seems to be de rigeur
as of late, and I got to thinking, why shouldn't I hop on the bandwagon
as well? Doing compilation CDs of one's website also seems the thing to
do, but due to legal reasons I would be concerned about selling them
(and I doubt anyone would pay for one anyway, heh). So, I thought, why
not have a contest for a Nintendo Repository CD? This isn't quite an
announcement of said contest, rather some pre-contest research. So ok,
here goes: the person who sends in the most neat, original stuff for me
to add to the website within a time period (probably 2 months) would
get a free CD of the site, as well as a few hundred meg of stuff I
never put up for one reason or another. So if you think this is a leet
idea, email me and let me know; just put "do contest" or something like
that in the subject line.
Life has been busy as of late, and I apologize to
everyone who has emailed and sent things in for inclusion but have not
heard back from me. For everyone who submitted stuff, thank you
and please keep it coming. I will try and catch up soon.
I have a special request for anyone out there who
happens to own the newest Digital
Press guide. Please let me know if there is a Famicom cartridge
list included, I was told there might be one. And if there is, how it
compares to my work. Thanks!
Some, including me, have been unable to download
the NES/FC list due to its size and server timeouts. So I put up a
zipped copy for download, it is under 80k compared to the unzipped copy
which is over 600k.
Pretty much same update as last time, am
inbetween computers right now and cannot create too much new stuff,
since I cannot back-up. But, just a few weeks ago I found a huge gold
mine for new FC and SFC pictures, so the progress on the list is now
taking off. Hey, maybe someday it will even be completed.
A small update today. EGM has been delayed for a
couple more weeks due to technical difficulty, and general distraction.
Everyone who tried running EGM and had the
program close after trying to create a new database should download a
new debug version of the program. Instructions on how to use it are on
the EGM page. DO NOT download this if you
have another error, or if it works for you. This closing error is very
common and the only reported bug as of late.
A weak update, but the best I can do right now.
Lots of great stuff coming, just have been busy trying to get it all
ready.
I am an idiot. I accidentally uploaded this index
page before I was ready to do an update, and was up for weeks. Which is
why the update below did not work when people tried to access the new
stuff. It wasn't ready yet.
A new, almost complete version of EGM is coming
in a couple weeks. This version will support inport/export CSV files,
as well as an installer, finally. Stay tuned.
LATE UPDATE: Ok, the Sachen GB page is up as well. I
also added 2 new NES controllers, the Zoomer and the Konix Speedking,
to the NES/FC Controllers
page. Enjoy!
-
Added 7 new manuals:
Clash At Demonhead, Flying Dragon - The Secret Scroll, The Incredible
Crash Dummies, Jaws, Mario's Time Machine, Panic Restaurant, and
Rockin' Kats, all typed up by Skrybe. I have had these for a long time,
but forgot to put them up.
-
Updated Power Pad page with a silly
picture of someone using the Japanese version of the device. I have no
idea where I got it years ago, if it is yours and want credit, let me
know.
-
Added new NES Silver Surfer comic book ad to ads page
Lots of great stuff coming soon here. A
near-complete EGM, in terms of functionality, will be released in a few
weeks, only the search engine is not finished. Much of the Game Boy
section will be overhauled and given a new look. In the near future,
all HTML on this site will be generated via a program I wrote, which
means huge portions of the site can be changed and updated quickly, as
well as tasks like adding new pirate cartridges etc. will be radically
faster. And the designs will all be uniform, much fewer broken links
etc. All of this should be here by the last week of July. For now, here
is some new stuff.
The debugging version of EGM has been released.
Go get it. It also, of course, fixes a few bugs and things. Those with
Microsoft Visual Studio .NET products installed may, may, get a missing
mfc42.dll message. If you do, please email me and let
me know and I will make adjustments for this. If you don't, please
also let me know. The next version of EGM
will finally have an easy to use installer.
I know the updates have been somewhat weak lately, but I do have stuff
in the works here, and there will be more interesting updates soon. As
usual, if you have anything to contribute, please send
it in.
-
Minor update to SNES/SFC Mouse page
-
Added Mega Man X2 manual to manuals page, thanks to Egil
Skalla-Grimsson for the manual
Released another version of EGM, another highly suggested update for
those who have been able to use EGM. A debugging version for those how
haven't been able to get it to work is coming in a few days.
Also, expect another update in a day or so, with some new stuff,
including some manuals. I just don't have time to upload it all today.
Released another version of EGM, this fixes a very serious bug, and is
recommended for all users. On that same note, many have written telling
me that they cannot create a new database without the program crashing,
making the program useless. I am investigating this, and will release a
special debugging version shortly.
Here's a new EGM, lost of improvements and bug
fixes. Get it here. As a side note, they
say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Seems someone else is
writing their own
program, which is an awful lot like EGM. Maybe this is coincidence,
I don't know, but it sure looks like it borrows *a lot* of ideas from
me. Either way it is cool and all, I mean, if someone can write a
better program, hey go for it. Maybe I should be flattered, I still
don't know :)
Hi everyone. A few new things today. More to come
in a few days.
-
An update to the NES/FC
list of course, and more scans uploaded
-
Speaking of scans, the scans have been
somewhat-organized, and broken into good 2 sections: good scans and
poor scans which need to be replaced. If anyone has replacement scans
for any of the poor scans, please let me know.
-
Added a page about the LodgeNet Entertainment System, a
video game system found in some hotels. I have pictures, but they are
still on old fashioned film, so it is text-only for now.
Just a reminder to everyone, please use the new
email address nintendoNOSPAMrepository@SPAMSUXmyrealbox.com.
I know I sound like a broken record, but people are still sending
important mails to the old address, and getting upset that I don't
reply. Remove the capital letters for the real email address of
course (damn spam bots).
There is a new version of EGM also, and it is a major update. A few
new features have been added (not all are finished yet), and several
significant bugs were fixed. This will bring EGM close to the 1.0 beta
stage, that is, the program will have everything I wanted to put in,
and there will be bug fixing only left to do. It is still missing a few
minor features, though, but it is close to complete. Be sure and send
in any suggestions, and bugs you find.
-
Added new Super MultiTap 2 page,
a neat Bomberman-shaped MultiTap only released in Japan. Also revamped
the MultiTap page
-
Added Bust-A-Move manual to manuals page, manual typed up and
contributed by Egil Skalla-Grimsson
-
Also updated Super NES/Famicom Mouse
page. If anyone knows if the mouse was also released in Europe or not,
please let me know.
Released a critical update for EGM, all EGM users
should download this
-
Removed all but one Unknown Famicom cart, all
others have been identified. Thanks again to Klarth Ailerion!
-
As a result, updated NES/FC list
-
Added manual
for Power Glove, submitted by Jeff Bogumil, typed up by Lee K. Seitz
-
Added missing link for Freedom Connection
page, in the peripherals
section. Also updated the Freedom Connection page a bit
A few new things today.
The Super NES/FC list will be EGMized and totally
redone in the near future. If it proves successful, the NES/FC and GB
lists will get the same treatment.
Speaking of EGM, there is a new version
available. Go get it, and let me know
what you think. If you are having problems with EGM, be sure to read
the What's New section for help.
A number of people have mentioned to me they sent
mail to me, but I never replied, and were fairly angry about it. Please
understand I get a lot of email, and I have had a lot of problems with
my various email accounts. If you emailed me, and I never replied,
please send your mail again, to the address below. I am not ignoring
anyone, and I appreciate everyone's comments, suggestions, stuff to add
to the site, and even complaints. If you sent any mail to the old
hotmail address, chances are I never got it. I still check my hotmail
account, but for every real mail, I get 50 or so spam mails a day. Not
only do I have a hard time reading through and digging out the real
mail from all the junk, but hotmail has a small allowable disk space,
and often times the spam floods my box and pushes me over the limit,
and real mail (especially with attachments) gets deleted. Please, use
nintendorepositoryNO@SPAMmyrealboxPLEASE.com (remove the capital
letters in the address, sorry this is necessary to do). Thanks!
Special apology to Joona Poho, I have used his
pictures on the M82 Demo Unit
page without giving him proper credit for a long, long time. Again, my
apologizes for this oversight. I have a hard time keeping track of all
the stuff on this site sometimes. If I have anything here for which any
of you deserve some credit or recognition, please let me know.
-
Another big update to the NES/FC list. Big thanks to Klarth
Ailerion for identifying most of the unknown Famicom carts! I have a
huge collection of Famicom scans I need to upload, and will do so soon.
-
Updated Four Score and NES Satellite pages, can
someone confirm that the PAL/UK version of Sword and Serpents game is 4
player compatible (using the actual cartridge, not the ROM dump, which
I believe is wrong)?
-
Updated Unknown
Famicom page with a few more unknown Famicom games
A few new things today, along with a new version
of EGM.
-
Yes folks, another massive update to NES/Famicom list, and even more Famicom scans uploaded. Thanks
to Klarth Ailerion for identifying all of the previously unidentified
Famicom carts. If you have scans of Famicom cartridges not in the
collection, please feel free to submit them, so I can complete the
Famicom scans collection and list.
-
Updated NES Satellite page, man
it sucked. Actually, it still kinda does. I need some more information
on this, especially the European/PAL and Japanese versions.
-
Very minor update to R.O.B./Family Robot page
-
Very minor update to Family BASIC Keyboard page
Just a few new things today...
Updated EGM, this
is another critical update. Everyone should download this, it fixes a
lot of bugs which prevented much of the program from working.
Updated EGM,
Win2000/NT/XP should download this update. Not necessary for 95/98/ME
users.
-
Significantly updated NES/Famicom List, many, many Japanese
titles corrected. In addition, the Misc
Scans were all deleted, renamed, and reorganized, and reuploaded.
The file names now accurately match the full, complete Japanese title
of the game as it is in the NES/Famicom
List.
-
More unidentified Famicom carts added to
unknown section
My email had changed yet again, it is now nintendorepository@myrealbox.com.
The old email at repository@myrealbox.com will not work, and I have not
been able to get my mail there for over a month. So if you sent any
mail there, I never got it. I know comments concerning EGM were sent
there, and I never got to see them.
Speaking of EGM, there is a new release of EGM. Give it a try, and give
me some feedback at the new address.
A few new things here and there on the site. But
today, I want to talk about something a little different.
Many of you may have been wondering why I haven't been updating much at
all in the last six months. Ok, maybe you haven't. Anyways, I have been
working on something else, something new which I felt has been lacking,
and had yet to be done. While I enjoy working on this site, I have had
a serious case of "writer's block" the last few years, and have been
unsure what to do with it. One of the reasons this site has lost a lot
of popularity, is the constant server changes (and I do apologize for
that, but it happens, ask Marten Nielsen of NES World). But more than
that, is the lack of original, and generally interesting content. I
added the NES and GB in an attempt to cover more, but much of what I
have done has been done elsewhere. Besides my web design skills (ha!),
I also have other computer talents, and decided to put them in a new
direction.
So, without further adou, I present, EGM, or Electronic Game Manager. A
free, small Windows program which does something other programs have
tried to do, be a fully intergrated game collection management system.
I have worked on this on and off for 6 months, it is still early in its
production, but it is usable and largely complete. Take a look, and
tell me what you think.
EGM will be maintained separately from this site, as I consider them to
be two different "products" (but there will be a link from here). EGM
will be updated every two weeks or so, until it is finally complete.
Now, on to the site updates...
-
Updated NES/FC
Cartridge List
-
Added 2 new NES pirate multicarts, 1 new pirate FC
single
-
Added a new unknown FC cart, and an unknown
FDS disk to unidentified
section. If you can identify these, please let me know.
More new stuff, and a lot of bugfixes, redesigns,
and such. According to FrontPage, there are no longer any broken links,
but who really knows all things considered, let me know if you find
any.
Someone emailed me about removing some NES
controllers pictures they claim are theirs. I will do this in the next
update, I just haven't had a chance to go through them and figure out
what is what.
Man, it has been a while, hasn't it? Well, we're
back, albeit in a limited capacity for a few weeks. Lots of new stuff,
but haven't had a chance to get it all up yet.
What I do have for this update is a significantly updated Super NES/FC cartridge list. The
database conversion is also underway and doing well. I *hope* to have
some database stuff set up here in the following weeks. Ok, probably
months, but it will be sometime in the future. I know I have said it
before ad nauseum, but this site isn't down, yes even though it has
been 7 months. We'll be slowly back as things unfold.
There will be another update in a few weeks, hopefully less. Thanks for
your continued support!
Please note a change in email address: nintendoIHATESPAMrepository@NOSPAMTHANKSmyrealbox.com
Note the old email address still works but I won't check it very often.
IMPORTANT: remove "NOCRAPPYSPAM" from the address above to
email, the NOSPAM was added to deter spam bots from getting my address.
Thanks!
