| Now, this is one odd device, indeed. I
was searching a local pawn shop, passing over the $10 common NES carts and the big box
full of dirty and overpriced Genesis controllers, when I found this beauty. For only $2, I
got to take home this rather odd piece of NES peripheral history. This is the Roll 'n
Rocker, and one of the cheesiest peripherals around. What is it? Well, it is, essencially,
a giant control cross with a ball on the bottom, where you can stand on and move around on
it and control your character onscreen this way. Like a poor man's virtual reality (like,
very poor man's). Who asked for this, I wonder.... well, it is made by LJN, so who knows
their logic in their product design. Anyways, you plug the device into whatever controller port you wish (1 if you are player 1 and 2 if player 2); you can use this device with any game which uses standard controllers, 1 or 2 player). You then plug a standard controller into the rear of the device, so you have the controller buttons to use while you play by moving around on the device. How effective is it? No clue... just look at it in the pic above, I am over 200lbs, I am not stepping on it! I will go right through it, probably. How effective do I hypothesize it is? Don't hold you breath man... but it is a very odd peripheral, so if you are a completionist like me, it is a must-have. |
