I don't know too much about this modem. I beleive it was used for a home banking system, similar to one that could be accessed with the Famicom via modem. If anyone knows more, please let me know. The speed of the modem is unknown, or who made it. What is interesting about the modem, is that is connects via the controller port; the second controller port I assume. You'd expect it to hook to the Super Famicom vida the expansion port on the bottom, like the Famicom or NES. Since the Satalliview required being attached to the bottom of the Super Famicom, maybe they assumed attaching it via the controller port was a good idea, so the user wouldn't have to switch devices on the bottom. The modem bears the official Super Famicom seal, so I assume it is licensed.
