The SuperDeck was to be another NES-to-SNES adapter, allowing you to play NES games on your SNES hardware. This device was to be manufactured by Hornby of England, and was to be manufactured here in the US by Camerica or Innovation (who did release the Super 8 in the US). The SuperDeck reached preproduction stage, and a working prototype was shown at a convention in the UK, but was never finally released. The device was to go for 40 British Pounds, or about $65 US dollars. It is similar to the Super 8, but with cosmetic differences; it is about 1 1/2" high, fits over the top of the raised area around the cartridge port on the SNES, is grey and white to match the European SNES and has a SuperDeck nameplate and a Hornby nameplate on the front. It has cartridge ports on top for both NES and SNES carts. In EGM, a Hornby representative states that the SuperDeck does not violate NES patents, because it uses software emulation and "hardware trickery". Hmm...
Ultimately, the SuperDeck was never released, due to its high retail price (see above), which was believed to be unacceptable in the eyes of consumers; remember, the new style NES came out during the same time frame as this device was being developed, and sold at a lower retail price.
