The following is a list of games that had, at least, reached elementary planning stages, but for some reason or another, were not released.
3 Ninjas Kick Back
1995
?
Action
I have no idea about this one, other than it was to be based on the movie of the same name. I assume it is similar to the original 3 Ninjas game.
7th Saga 2
1995
US
Enix
RPG
I believe they may have had problems translating the text and the resulting increase in the size of the game (See Dragon Warrior V).
Action 52
1993?
US
Active Enterprises Ltd.
Multiple games
There is quite a legend behind the Action 52, and Active Enterprises Ltd. An Action 52
cart was made for both NES and Genesis, and a Super NES version was planned. How much
progress was made on the SNES version is unknown. It may have just been announced, and
never started, or a working prototype may exist! If you know anything beyond this, please
let me know; you'll really make my day! :)
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Curse of the Azure Bonds
?
US
Capcom?
RPG
This was planned as a followup to AD&D: Eye of the Beholder. Both games are ports of
their respective PC versions, which both enjoyed a level of popularity. Due to problems
with the way Curse of the Azure Bonds is designed, requiring a player to use an
accompanying book to interact with the game, it was decided the game would be impractical
to port to the SNES, and the project was terminated. The game never got past the planning
stages.
Batman
1994
US
Software Creations
Punch and Scroll
This is a "Final Fight meets Batman" urban street fighter. This game only has 2
stages completed, and no music or sound effects. The game is horrendous, good thing it was
never completed. A prototype exists, and a ROM of the game is floating around on the net.
Thanks to VG Kawaii for the screenshots and info
Brandish 2: Planet Busters
1996
US
Koei
RPG
The Japanese version was released, and a US port was planned but never released; I don't
know why it was not released, or anything beyond that.
Dragon Warrior V
1992
US
Enix
RPG
This is one of the real trageties in SNES history. This game was to have been released
about a year and a half after the released of Dragon Warrior IV for the NES. Supposedly,
there were problems porting the Japanese Dragon Quest V because, in a nutshell, English
text takes u
